Oculus Quest 2 has a tendency to show a blank screen after a long time of use. Many users have facing this usually after a reboot, or a new software update. Many have to resort to resetting the entire headset. But today we’ll try to look at other ways to fix your headset before a complete reset. So here’s how to fix stuck on black screen on startup after update on Oculus Quest 2.
How to Fix Oculus Quest 2 Black Screen?
To fix the stuck black screen on startup after the update on Oculus Quest 2 you need to apply a thin tape on the Proximity Sensor. Now the headset will remove the black screen and show the images through the lens. This issue usually happens when a third-party accessory puts additional distance before the Proximity Sensor, or if a new update unintentionally changes the intensity of the sensor.
So the best way to fix this issue is by using thin tape as mentioned above. This will act & mimic as if your head was really close to the sensor. Also as per a comment by Cory Higgins on a YT video on the topic, Cory suggests disabling the Proximity Sensor completely. So let’s look at Cory’s comment below:
If this doesn’t work, you can download either developer’s hub from oculus or sidequest onto a pc and disable the proximity sensor completely. You have to turn on developer options on the quest via the app. Then allow the device. Mine was usable for about 40 seconds before it would shut down then id have to restart. I was able to quickly allow my pc access to the headset.
If you would rather try to do a factory rest on your headset, then check out this video from the devs:
